How To Get French Style In Your Home

by Kimberly Foerst
French style is more than just high fashion and fancy food. The French are also known for their gorgeous home interior style that combines extravagant and sophisticated pieces with more shabby decorative items.
You don’t have to hire an interior designer or decorator to get a beautiful and stylish French look in your home. You can do it yourself with the simple tips below.

French Country Style Bedroom

1. Showcase your architecture – France is known for its incredible architecture. From the Louvre to the Eiffel Tower, from the Palace of Versailles to the Pantheon, the country has a rich history of exquisite design. If you have high ceilings or intricate molding, highlight them with your decor choices.

2. Mix old and new – When you think of French style, you may think of old buildings with loads of charm. But you don’t have to live in a 19th century building to have a beautiful French-inspired room. Add a lavish antique mirror or an ornate old lamp or chandelier. The counterbalance of the older items with new textiles or furniture is what French style is all about.
3. Keep it shabby – The great thing about French style is that it is elegant without looking like someone tried too hard. There is a real comfort to the style. The floor space should be clear and you should be able to easily move throughout the room, but your comforter set or window panels can have a messy, shabby chic look. Oversized ruffled bedding or long curtains that pool onto the floor right at the wall create the look without interfering with walk space.

4. Add golden touches – French style is glamorous. If you can’t afford real gold, paint will do the trick. You can also choose to add gold colored fabrics with your curtain or your decorative pillows, for example.
