LD: How would you describe your personal decorating style?
Alieta: I love bright, cheerful colors and patterns that create a happy and inviting space to visit with friends and family.
LD: Where did your love for home decor and interior design come from, and how did you come to learn you have design talent?
Alieta: My mom is an artist and has an eye for design. She always made our home beautiful by mixing family treasures, antiques, garage sale finds, and new pieces. I learned from watching her as a child, and started my own home decor journey a few years ago on Instagram!
LD: What is the one key thing you think everyone should know before they take on a redecorating project?
Alieta: Paint is an easy fix! If you try a color and don’t like it, you can just paint over it! So try the color!
LD: What tips do you have for a couple or friends designing a home together who have never shared a living space before?
Alieta: Start saving posts from Instagram and Pinterest that show home styles you each like. Once you start comparing those, there’s a good chance you’ll see some common ground in styles or colors!
Also, communication is key! I was thinking about painting my front door pink, but was nervous what my husband would think about it. Turns out, he thought it was a great idea! It never hurts to ask!
LD: Tell me about one decorative item in your home that you simply cannot live without.
Alieta: One of my most treasured possessions is an antique mirror I purchased a couple years ago. My husband asked me to marry him at a family friend’s gazebo overlooking the city. When that sweet friend passed away, his daughter had an estate sale before they sold the house. I walked through those rooms and the gazebo one last time, and saw this gorgeous mirror. Their entire family loved God and reflected that love to those around them. The mirror is a beautiful reminder to do the same as it hangs in our dining room.
