Regardless of the season, you always want your home to be inviting and cozy not only for you but your visitors as well. Plus, to be honest, we all could probably benefit from adding a little more warmth to our homes this winter season - but how can we start doing that? Here are five easy ways to cozy up your home without spending a fortune!
Add a Couple of Throws
Throw blankets are a winter staple. Keep a few in your home’s common area, or layer them over the back of your couch for easy access. This way you can turn the thermostat down a little bit and cozy up!
Warm Up Your Window Treatments
Sheer window curtains are pretty, but will they keep your home warm? Probably not. Consider trading them out for a heavier drape made of velvet or any other drapery with a thermal lining. Not only are they stylish, but they will keep the cold air out and warm air in.
Update Your Bedding
Is your bed still dressed in light and crisp summer linens? If so, it’s time to swap them out for a thicker, warmer comforter set. For some, our soft cotton quilt sets may not be enough to keep you warm in the dead of winter. Comforters are known to be the warmest bedding option, and now is the perfect time to either pull out an old set or purchase a brand new one.
Use Softer Lighting
We don’t care what anyone says; harsh lighting is not cozy. So this winter, dim the lights, turn on your electric fire place, and maybe light a few candles (real or flameless) to create a cozy atmosphere to spend your winter nights watching your favorite TV series with your loved ones.
Treat the Feet
Slippers and fuzzy rugs are an absolute must in the winter time. In fact, not just one rug, but layers of rugs that are placed in strategic places throughout the home will up the cozy factor even more. Prime spots to place warm throw rugs could be next to your bed, by your favorite reading chair, in the kitchen, or under the coffee table.
