The Summer is winding down for the most part, and the weather has started to get cooler in many areas. One question remains: How do I keep my child busy? You'll likely be stuck inside more than you have been this summer. Surely there are plenty of activities to do in the cooler months that will allow you to spend quality time with your child and keep them engaged with learning and playing. Here are a few fun autumn activities to do with your children.
1. Pumpkin Picking and Painting
Take your child to a local pumpkin patch! Pumpkin patches usually have plenty of things to do that are fun and informative. Take this opportunity to teach them about how plants grow while also having fun. Let them pick out their favorite pumpkin and allow them to paint it when you arrive home to practice their art skills and hone their creativity.
2. Leaf Collage Craft
The leaves are starting to turn colors now in many areas. They will be even more in the coming weeks. Explore your neighborhood together and collect leaves to use for a leaf collage. This gives you as a parent or guardian the opportunity to teach them about the seasons and the life cycle of trees, and gives your child the opportunity to use their fine motor skills.
3. Bake Together
Let your little one learn about baking by allowing them to help you bake seasonal cookies. Use fun fall themed cookie cutters and allow them to do some of the basics of the recipe. The child could help by dumping pre-portioned ingredients into the mixing bowl, mixing the ingredients, kneading the dough if necessary, and cleaning up after.
Whether you decide to use these activities as traditions or simple time fillers, your child is sure to learn and have fun at the same time!
