Decorating the Perfect Nursery For Your Baby in 4 Steps

Nov 7, 2018by Kimberly Foerst
One of the biggest decisions a couple will make in their lives is to bring another human life into this world. Shortly after that decision is made, a whirlwind of other decisions will follow. As a new mother, or soon-to-be-mother, you want everything to go as smoothly as possible both before and after the birth of your child, and that includes decorating the perfect nursery!

We know that nursery decorating can be downright stressful for those with no background in design. But you want the space to be perfect -- after all, you will be spending a lot of your time there. Just follow these four easy steps for decorating the perfect nursery!

Decide on a Color Scheme
Parents will generally base the nursery’s color scheme around the gender of the baby. However, it doesn’t always have to be blues and pinks, it can be yellows and purples too. It’s also not unusual to instead choose a nursery theme (butterflies, race cars, zoo animals) and then create a color palette that matches the theme. At Lush Decor, we have a wide variety of affordable home decor to buy online to match whichever nursery theme or color palette you choose!
Create a Nursery Plan
Before you start purchasing items for your new nursery and after you’ve narrowed down the themes, colors, and furniture ideas, create a plan. Decide where the different pieces of furniture will go, where pictures will go on the walls, and size everything out so that you’re less likely to make any returns.

Buy the Basics
Once the plan is complete, you should have a pretty good idea of where the crib, the changing table, the nursery chair, and other essential items will go. We also wanted to point out that your nursery furniture doesn’t have to match in order to create the space you’ve always dreamed of. Sometimes mismatched pieces make for a more interesting space.

Fill in the Blanks
The final decorating step is filling in the blanks. This is where you buy all the accessories needed to really pull the room together. Area rugs, window treatments, crib bedding, storage bins, and soft Sherpa blankets are a good place to start with wall decor and lighting items to follow.
