Glam Guide: 5 Questions with Stylist Gofran Ahmed
Glamorous decor allows you to step into a room and feel like a movie star. Whether it's luxurious velvets or silky fabrics, or shiny gold accents, or even sequins that sparkle like diamonds, you can count on glamorous decor to bring the drama. But while glamorous decor will certainly make a statement, it also remains elegant and timeless.
Home Stylist Collective Member Gofran Ahmed explains why she loves the glamorous decor style, what common misconceptions people have about the style, and where she finds design inspiration.
1. Tell me why you love the Glam decor style.
For me I love glam decor style just like how every strong, elegant, and successful woman loves to look pretty, fancy, and extravagant. I’m a glamorous girl who appreciates beauty and fancy spaces, so the glam style fits my personality. One of the easiest ways to glam up your house is by making it shine through the fancy details in your decorations. When you add sparkling and glamorous touches to your decorations, you could turn any traditional home into a really beautiful Hollywood like house.
2. Have you always decorated in the Glam style, or has your personal style changed over time?
No, my personal style has changed over time. Growing up, my environment was constantly changing, which influenced my constant interest in changing decor until I discovered my passion towards glam style. Sometimes I like to mix and blend different design styles into one unique look. For me, a glamorous room is often a mix of a simple and classic furniture paired with luxurious accents.
3. What common misconceptions do you think people have about the Glam decor style, and what is your take on it?
Many people think that Glam decor is all about having a lot of shiny and sparkly pieces, such as metallics, mirrors, crystal, lacquer, and furs. People tend to hate those light-catching materials. I think you should pick the colors, textures, and materials that speak to your personality, and that will stay in style. Then add the accents that will elevate your room into a glamorous space. Accent colors and furniture can take glam in two directions: high-impact or soft and luxurious. Patterns and textures also play a huge role in elevating your room to a glamorous one.
4. Where do you draw your inspiration from when redecorating? Walk us through your process.
As a kid, I was inspired by the luxurious look of tall buildings such as towers and hotels. So I always try to make my spaces neat and luxurious looking. When I decide to redecorate a place, I look through Pinterest, Google, and some other pages that I follow on social media. Then I combine all the ideas together to create my own style.
I also get inspired when I travel. Going to new places can be a great source of inspiration for decorating your home in a way you never saw before and never thought about. Lastly, books are another source of inspiration for me -- not just books about interiors, but books and arts in general can give me clues as to what I love to look at.
5. Tell me about one decorative item in your home that you simply can't live without.
That’s a hard question for me. Because I have more than one thing I can’t live without when it comes to my decorations. But I think books can make my home inherently stylish. Books, like the ones pictured above, look great on a bookshelf, on a coffee table, on an end table, or just on any other surface area you can think of.
