Preparing Your Home for Holiday Guests

by Alexa Robel

One of the most enjoyable things about the holiday season is spending extended time with family and friends. It’s especially great to welcome them into your home. But before you host overnight guests, you’ll need to make sure your house is ready for company. Here are a couple of ways you can prepare your home for guests to feel comfortable and at home this holiday season.

Loving hugs

Know Your Guests

Knowing your guests in very important so you can prepare in ways they'll appreciate. Will the in-laws be spending a few days? Or perhaps a few close friends? Chances are your guests will have different needs and expectations, so it’s important to understand ahead of time what those will be. Consider everything from food allergies to sleeping accommodations. An air mattress might be fine for a teenager, but may not work for your in-laws.

Fortunately, it’s easy to figure out what their needs and expectations might be — just ask them. Get answers for what kind of food they like so you can keep the fridge stocked with their favorite snacks and drinks. Find out their preferred sleeping arrangements, and so on. It’s important that your guests feel comfortable. The first step is taking the time to show them you want their stay to be a pleasant one.

A Comfortable Place To Sleep

Having a designated guest room provides privacy and comfortability to your guests where they can wind down and sleep peacefully. A comfortable mattress, clean, comfortable bedding and some light, airy decor is sure to be welcoming. Another option would be a daybed or sleeper sofa if you don’t have a spare bedroom. If your home does not allow for a guest room and you do not have a sleeper sofa or day bed available, an air mattress placed in a quiet part of the house will do just fine. If you do have a spare bedroom, decorate it for the holidays to make it feel welcoming to your guest.
